An Akronite trying to figure out what it means to be a child of God while living in a fallen world with broken people and gaping wounds.

The Odd One.

Want a quick way to make sure everyone at your new job as a waitress knows you are different from the rest of the world? Tell them you care less about how much you make in tips and more about how well you take care of your guests.

The reactions are hilarious.

Work

To get a month off of work at Giant Eagle for summer staff I was supposed to let all managers know and check with them. Then I would have to talk to my store manager to see if he would allow it. Then I had to talk to the Regional HR person to get approval again. THEN I was supposed to write to cooperate to plead my case. If the approved I would be allowed to take the month off. Another option which managers suggested was to quit then re-apply, which is what everyone who goes off to college has to do.

To get the month off at Olive Garden for summer staff I have to tell a manager the dates I  am going to be gone.

O Love That Will Not Let Me Go (Remixed 2008) [feat. Sandra McCracken]

by Indelible Grace Music

bindmyheart:

This song means so much to me. One of these verses will be tattooed on my skin promptly.

Oh love that will not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee.
I give thee back the life I owe
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

Oh light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee
My heart restores its borrowed ray
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

Oh joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee.
I trace the rainbow through the rain
And feel the promise is not vain
That morn shall tearless be.

Oh cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee.
I lay in dust, life’s glory dead,
And from the ground, there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.”

One of my favorites

Though the fig tree doesn’t bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls
I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Extravagance

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6-8

I love every thing about this passage. Today when I was reading it something new stuck out to me. Christ called us to love has he loved. He gave everything for us because he loved us so much. When I read this today I was struck again with the magnitude of what God did to save us from the depths of our darkness even while we didn’t understand how wrecked we were. How far he went, and transitively how far he calls us to go.

If we are to be loving the way he loved we are called to go to people, to give up our desires and our comfort to care for our brothers and sisters. We are called to love people who HATE us. We are called to go and be with people who suck, are mean, don’t want us around and don’t have the slightest intrest in knowing the glory of the Lord. We are called to love people who hate us in the most over the top and extravagant ways.

I love that. I’m so excited about it. I’m grateful that people have loved me in that way and that I am challenged to love people like that.

A Taste Of Thing To Come? of the Day: Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales has just announces via Twitter that he will be joining the anti-SOPA blackout planned for this Wednesday, January 18th.
Starting at midnight EST, the English version of Wikipedia will go dark for 24 hours, crippling student reports everywhere, and hopefully bringing much-needed attention to the Internet killing bill and its congressional sibling, PIPA.
Even though SOPA was shelved over the weekend after President Obama expressed opposition to the bill, it is still expected to reemerge.
Reddit’s Internet blackout initiative, which was officially unveiled last week, has been steadily picking up steam, with multiple Internet giants announcing their intentions to follow suit.
A list of sites that have confirmed their participation can be found here.
